We host & showcase incredible Indigenous
stories & articles from all around the world

Here's why:

The problem

The indie mission

Every day we're losing more Indigenous stories - and all of the invaluable knowledge and culture held within them.

To help Indigenous creatives share their stories far and wide...

That's down to a whole bunch of fairly heavy factors including oppression, urbanisation, and a lack of diversity in the media.

The impacts for Indigenous people, our allies, and our world are devastating; cultural disconnection is fuelling loss of identity & belonging for individuals, inequality throughout our societies, and the destruction of our planet.

Yikes, alright.

...so that Indigenous cultures can thrive, so that our people, our allies, and our world can thrive too.

Indigenous storytellers are already creating, retelling, and sharing incredible stories.

Hungry, supportive audiences are already looking for them.

Y'all just need a little help to connect! That's where indie comes in.

The plan

The team

We're making it easier for Indigenous communities to share their stories, and easier for readers of all backgrounds to access them.

indie was dreamed up by Lizzie Dunn and Han Craig. Kia ora/hey!

1. We find amazing Indigenous stories that need to be seen

2. We host and/or link to & showcase them for free.

3. Awesome readers enjoy, learn from, & share them.

4. Indigenous communities are able to keep their stories alive, helping their people and the rest of the world to thrive.

We also work with amazing funders to get hands-on with special projects.

We're two wāhine Māori/Māori women from Aotearoa/New Zealand. Lizzie hails from Te Whānau-ā-Apanui while Han harks back to Ngāpuhi. We also have European and Pasifika roots and that big ol' mix is a major driver in our obsession with cultural identity and our own ongoing reconnection journeys.

Both of us feel a palpable responsibility to our ancestors and the next generation to contribute what we can to help Indigenous cultures to survive and thrive. We don't have all the answers, but we do have world-class design skills, solid experience in media and publishing, and a knack for convincing awesome people to get involved - plus some staunch tīpuna in our ears to keep us on track!

We can set up the systems, but it's rad readers and writers who are going to make the real difference. If you're still reading, we're guessing you're on board. Thank you. We're way stoked and very grateful to have you.

Together, with creatives providing content, readers giving their attention and sharing power, and our team throwing in a sweet platform to keep y’all connected, we reckon we can change the world.
